Calling All Seniors! At the mid-winter convention in San Antonio in January, 2017 the Society will introduce a new event, a Seniors Chorus Festival/Competition. For this inaugural event, 5 senior choruses will be invited by the Society to participate. The invitations will be determined by scores from a 2-song performance at the fall convention in each district. The House of Delegates approved the formation of The Ontario District Seniors Chorus at the April 2016 meeting.
For the third straight year, Scarborough hosted hundreds of barbershop singers from around Ontario for the annual spring convention of the Ontario District of the International Barbershop Harmony Society. SNAP Scarborough was there to conver the event. Check out their great images here!

Barbershop music--in the 1930s, the tune, shoo doop shooby doo, broadcasted from numerous street corners across North America.
No instruments were needed, just some rhythm and sheer singing power. On April 9, the Seaforth Harmony Kings kept the nearly century-old a cappella style of melody active. They ventured to Scarborough Ont. with one thing on their mind-gold. After losing last year by a nose hair, they knew what was needed to walk away victorious.
After a fantastic weekend of barbershop hosted by the Toronto Chapter, the Ontario District crowned a new district seniors quartet champion and district chorus champion and qualified a number of quartets for 2016 International competitions.
Yonge Guns, Test Drive, and Supertonic quartets all qualified for the International Quartet competion this July in Nashville, with Aristocrats quartet also earning scores that place them in strong contention for a wildcard spot in the contest.

PORT HOPE - The Ganaraska Chordsmen welcome you to the first concert they have self-produced as a chartered organization.
In fact, part of the May 7 show at Port Hope's Calvary Pentecostal Church is the official presentation of their charter to operate as a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society by district president Frank Knoll of Mt. Brydges, Ont.
“It will be a good show, no question about it,” Ganaraska Chordsmen president Ted Devonshire stated.

Spring Convention is only a couple of weeks away and this year we have some events happening at the Delta Hotel before and after the chorus contest.
One of the biggest events is nothing new but a brand new concept which should be a ton of fun. For this years Joe Barbershop chorus you have the opportunity to sing along side our very own 2013 Gold Medal Champion Chorus, The Toronto Northern Lights. The songs chosen are "Hello Mary Lou" and "Irish Blessing". Rehearsal starts at 10:30 on stage at the Global Kingdom Ministries on Markham road.
Join us in celebrating the contributions and achievements of Ontario barbershoppers who helped improve the barbershop art form in Ontario in 2015! Please take the time to nominate a fellow barbershopper who deserves to be celebrated.

While sitting in a convention auditorium watching a contest, have you ever had these thoughts?
"My scores usually track with those of the official panel. I wonder how I'm doing today";
"I plan to apply this fall to become a judge -- it would be great if I could do a practice judging session somewhere to ensure that it's the right path for my barbershop future";
or simply, "It sure would be fun to judge an International contest!"
